I just kinda happened upon this while looking at pictures to get ideas for my own wedding and I think The hobo wedding looked nice. And the depression was funny! The best part of the depression was the poverty! HILARIOUS! I'm talking patched pants a top hat with the open tin can thing going on!!! I REALLY hope it happens again. I PRAY for it! The south African thing was weird though.

Wow.

All the issues regarding the acceptability of tattoos aside (I have to go to class soon and can't rant), tattoos are not AVAILABLE to kids. These parents agonizing about "what if my little girl sees this and wants a tattoo?" You don't have to worry about it until she's eighteen.

Whereas eating disorders, low self-esteem, and all the other host of problems that can be caused by body-image issues, can easily manifest at any age. Quit worrying if your eight-year-old starts thinking she wants a tattoo when she grows up---start worrying if she starts thinking she needs to diet.

Seriously! The women I know who are heavily tattooed (and I know quite a few, I'm on a roller derby league!) are some of the most confident, strong, women I've ever met. And they tend to have very positive body images. :)

As a woman with tattoos, I find it especially funny that the reactions to a tattooed Barbie are "OMG this will encourage girls to get tattoos and that's TERRIBLE." As you said above, tattoos you can remove. And tattoos are frequently an expression made by someone who is happy with their body, artworks with deeply personal meanings. An eating disorder is a health condition that is responsible for the misery and death of women and girls around the world. The two are hardly comparable.

I understand the desire of a parent who doesn't want their child tattooed (mine still aren't thrilled), but when you look at a Barbie and your concern isn't with the wholly unhealthy and impossible physical standard it creates, you have bigger problems. My parents would much rather see me get another tattoo than develop an eating disorder.
