About Me

I was born and raised in Santa Cruz County, and recently graduated from UCSC with a B.A. in Sociology. Most of the things I write about are inspired by my education in the field of sociology, and also by my love of traveling, music, history, food, and other cultures, and political satire.

Someday soon I hope to go to graduate school to continue studying sociology, and then share that knowledge via social documentation or by working as a journalist and/or blogger. My research interests particularly include:

Comparative-Historical Sociology, Jewish and Holocaust Studies, Hidden Histories, Race, Class and Gender,  Social Deviance, Cultural Studies, Institutionalized Racism, and Resistance, Women’s Rights/Issues and Politics.

For the past few years I have been involved in non-commercial, educational radio, volunteering at KZSC Santa Cruz and even serving as the Promotions Director. I love public media, and my life ambition is to analyze and examine social phenomena through audio and film documentation.

Currently I am working as an intern for the amazing Kitchen Sisters, helping create radio and multimedia pieces for the series Hidden World of Girls: Girls and the Women They Become.  It is an incredible opportunity to work with some of the best independent producers of radio pieces, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of the team.

I love Vesuvio…..when we were doing post-production on “Derby”, my 1970 documentary on Roller Derby, at Zoetrope we often went there. When I started the Sonoma Film Festival in 1997 Francis Ford Coppola was kind enough to lend his name to our advisory board.
